Clarification on eligibility timeline
Hi there,
I was hoping you could add more detail around eligibility for a project that uses code from before the hackathon start period. Our situation is that we wanted to enter a version of a tool we built for ourselves roughly a month before the May 19 window but started the public-facing subscription-based hosted version of the app after the hackathon period. Is this acceptable or should we drop the project?

Great question! For this hackathon, projects must be newly created after the start of the Submission Period (May 19 – Aug 17, 2026). A project created before that date is not eligible, regardless of whether it was publicly released or not — so a tool you built for yourself before May 19 would not qualify as the submitted project.
That said, you're welcome to reuse pre-existing generic templates, frameworks, boilerplates, or code snippets as building blocks for a new project, as long as you clearly explain how your submission utilized any pre-existing work in your description.
