New business incorporation or AI project within existing business
Q: Does my business/project need to be newly created for this hackathon, or can I submit something I’ve been working on already?
What does this exactly mean: Do one need to incorporate a new business entity (with VAT number, Company ID, etc.)? Or, can it also be starting a new dedicated AI project/service/product within an existing business as well? Incorporating a new business takes time (legal stuff, requesting a VAT number etc.) and involves costs (e.g. for the notary).

Thank you for your question, Guy! For this hackathon, projects must be newly created during the Submission Period (May 19 – Aug 17, 2026). A project that has been created before that date is not eligible, regardless of whether it was publicly released or not. A hackathon “project” is defined as a business that operates with AI. A “business” is defined as an activity that provides goods or services to interested parties in exchange for financial payment. A “business entity” is the legal structure of a company that conducts the business activity and can be created through a process called incorporation or entity formation. You do not need a new business entity. You can use an existing business entity. This refers to the legal entity itself. The Official Rules allow Small Organizations with fewer than 25 employees that exist at the time of entry to participate.
